Alps to Alsace

From the alps to Alsace Wine Tour
april 29-may 7, 2016

I am taking you to my home and offer personal visits to German, Swiss & French wineries - off the beaten tourist path, as each tour is especially selected for you, and not like any other wine related journey you have been on!

You will be celebrating the regional culture and cuisine, taste local wines at each stop, take a relaxing canal tour, participate in a cooking class with Chef Stephan in Oppenau in the Black Forest and follow footsteps of Romans, Celts and Franks.  Adorable and picturesque villages and squares await you.  Would we miss beautiful Lake Constance at the foot of the Swiss Alps, mountain tops only reachable by gondola, Liechtenstein, one of the smallest countries in the world, or an artisan cheese maker showing off his craft ??  - No way!

You’ll have plenty of free time to decompress and indulge in the castles, cathedrals and museums all around you – or, to just relax in a café.  We don’t believe in over-scheduling you; transit time and hotel transfers are kept to an absolute minimum. Space is limited for this “Special Insider” journey.

Trip Highlights and Itinerary

Day One

After arrival in Stuttgart, board a comfortable motor coach to a local "Swabian Farmers Market" and have lunch at a "farm to table restaurant" - accompanied by wines from Wuerttemberg. Continue on to Lake Constance for a cellar tour and wine tasting followed by your hotel check-in with an option to take a stroll thru the old town, the harbor, or along the lake shore before meeting for dinner and wine from Baden.
Incl. lunch and dinner

Day Two

Lots of touring and tasting today - starting at Birnau Abbey, one of the loveliest baroque churches in Europe. The Palace of Salem welcomes us for a private tour and lunch, then onto a city stroll in Meersburg and private wine tasting at the Baden-Wuerttemberg-State-Wine Estate.  Lake side dinner will offer some rest for your feet while enjoying scrumptious edibles and wine with vistas of Lake Constance and the Swiss Mountain peaks.
Incl. lunch and dinner

Day Three

Breathtaking Switzerland is next - home of Fondue, Raqulette, Zuricher Geschnetzeltes and Swiss Chocolate. An awe-inspiring assent delivers us to the top of the highest mountain peak in eastern Switzerland. A gondola ride will deliver us just in time for Lunch paired with Swiss wine. In the afternoon we find ourselves at a cheese manufacturer and tasting of yes - REAL Swiss Cheese! The arrival at our home for the next 2 nights in Liechtenstein concludes the day.
Incl. lunch & dinner

Day Four

Vaduz, the capitol and home of the Prince of Liechtenstein awaits us today. After a cellar tour and wine tasting at the Prince's own wine estate in the morning, you have a chance to explore this walk-able and charming city on your own. It's packed with Medieval, Baroque and Gothic structures, history and charm. Incl. lunch

Day Five

We share a short scenic drive through Switzerland, stop for an authentic fondue lunch, and another winery before arriving in Colmar, France - where you'll be free to tour this most picturesque city of Alsace and have dinner on the town with new friends.
Incl. lunch

Day Six

Our goal today is to learn and enjoy Alsatian wines, food, and culture while being treated to a private tour at the renowned Trimbach Wine Estate, as well as smaller and family owned wineries. A vineyard stroll and tour through a beautiful old town concludes the day.
Incl. lunch & dinner

Day Seven

The city of Strasbourg is our destination, situated on the border of France and Germany. It has a rich history and is the seat of the Supreme Court of the European Union. The events include a visit to the Cathedral, "Petit France" and a quintessential Alsactian Lunch with beer and eau de vie. In the afternoon, we'll depart for Oppenau in the Back Forest to report to the kitchen where Chef Stephan will lead us in the preparation of local cuisine. Of course, our dinner, which we prepared ourselves, will be accompanied by local wines.
