Barolo to Lake Como

OCTOBER 1-8, 2016

We are thrilled to invite you for a food and wine feast in Northern Italy this October!

The wines:  One of Italy’s finest wine regions and the home of the Nebbiolo grape, the Langhe producers’ distinct world-class wines. Its Barolos and Barbarescos wines have been called the King and Queen of Italian wines; but we’ll also try the Barberas, Dolcettos, Timorossos and many more!

The food: Alba’s White Truffle Festival is considered one of the world’s top food festivals, overflowing with wine tastings, food demos, the Harvest Market and of course, lots and lots of truffles!  And while truffles may be the finest of delicacies, they’re only one of many culinary treats in Piedmont.

The vistas: Long before George Clooney, spectacular Lake Como has drawn jet-set visitors to its crystal shores.

We’d love to share these exquisite experiences with you, but don’t believe in over-scheduling you; transit time and hotel transfers are kept to an absolute minimum. You’ll have plenty of free time to explore at your own pace.

The group is purposefully small. Our 14-person maximum includes your two host-guides.  We expect the remaining 12 seats to book very quickly - so here are the key details:

Trip Highlights & Itinerary

Day One

Arrive at Milan’s Malpensaairport, board our private motor coach for the city of Asti, visit and tour a sparkling wine cellar and taste why Asti Spumante is so popular around the world. After lunch, we head to our hotel in Alba, our home for 2 nights. During our welcome reception tonight, we plan to introduce you to the grape varieties and wine specialties of the region, followed by an early dinner.
Incl. Lunch, Dinner

Day Two

Participate in Alba’s White Truffle Fair, including the Truffle Market and cooking demos.  PLUS, you’ll enjoy premium seats for Sunday’s famous “Donkey Palio” – a hilariously historic event found nowhere else in the world! Immerse yourself into northern Italian culture and culinary delights, a full day of fun and great memories.

 Day Three and Four

Depart Alba in the morning for personal visits to wineries in the Roero and Langhe: the powerful Nebbiolo wines of Barolo and Barbaresco, visits to food artisans with tastings of wine and regional specialties, including the renowned cheeses of Bra (home of the Slow Food movement), hazelnuts, an artisan gelato producer, and even a rice farm -  to savor Piedmont’s famous risotto while taking  in the stunning Langhe countryside, now on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Of course, we’ll serve plenty of wines with each meal.  We chose one of the favorite AgriTourismo Country Estates as our overnight accommodations while exploring the Roero and Langhe region.
Incl. Lunch, Dinner each day

Day Five

We leave for a day of food and culture in the richly atmospheric capital city of Turin, home of the 2006 “XX Winter Olympic Games”. A city tour helps us navigate the old town, and free time after lunch lets us explore at our own pace. Overnight in Turin.

Today, our sight is on luxurious Lake Como with two nights and plenty of free time to luxuriate in Lake Como. After a city stroll and lunch, we’ll check into our hotel.
